Jerry Garcia

protoslacker:

Jerry Garcia died on August 9, 1995. The morning DJ on the radio station I listen to in the car does a daily feature about a half-hour before he begins his program shift called “Waking the Dead” where he plays a song and provides a bit of Grateful Dead history. Remembering the anniversary of Jerry Garcia’s death, he played a recording of Garcia performing Bob Dylan’s “Knocking on Heaven’s Door”.

Listening, the question occurred to me: “Did I pass the acid test?”

I don’t know the answer. A friend’s posted a photo from a local concert of an old man with a long waking stick wearing a very colorful Grateful Dead shirt and a MAGA hat. I wonder how long these tests last anyhow?

I got introduced to the lovely Ethan Hein here on Tumblr. Hein has a very good blog–not on here–and his post, Good old Grateful Dead, is very insightful about the band and Jerry Garcia.
