Released on 4 January 1983, the Eurythmics’ 2nd studio album was a critical and commercial hit.
After the disappointment of their 1981 debut album, the band took out a bank loan and began recording in a rented factory. They released 3 singles in the UK (”This Is the House,” “The Walk,” and “Love is a Stranger”) in 1982, which all sold poorly, giving them little optimism for the album (which included all 3 songs).
Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) was propelled by the title track, peaking at #2 in the UK and #1 in the US. After the success of the album, “Love is a Stranger” was re-released and peaked at #6 in the UK and #23 in the US.
